Privacy Policy
Effective date: 28 September 2026 · Applies to the Klassify mobile app and this website
This Privacy Policy explains what information Klassify ("Klassify", "we", "us") collects, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have. Klassify is operated by Swayam Patil ("the Developer"). By using Klassify you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
- Account information — your name, email address and Google account identifier, received when you sign in with Google.
- Institution and class information — your institution code and name, class code, your role (teacher, student or administrator), and for students a roll number and name as entered by the institution or teacher.
- Attendance records — dates and marks (Present, Absent or Holiday) for each student, and which teacher or system action created them.
- Location (colleges only) — when a college student taps to mark attendance, the app reads the phone's GPS position at that moment to check whether the student is within the allowed distance of the class location. Klassify does not track your location in the background.
- Technical information — basic device and app information and sign-in tokens needed to keep you signed in and keep the service secure.
2. How we use your information
- To sign you in and identify your role.
- To record, display and calculate attendance (including monthly percentages and institution overviews).
- To verify that a college student is at the class location when marking attendance.
- To save attendance records into spreadsheets owned by the institution, and to keep those spreadsheets organised (for example, archiving older months).
- To operate, secure, troubleshoot and improve the app.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for profiling or to make decisions about you.
3. Google user data
Klassify requests access to your Google account through Google sign-in and, where needed, to Google Drive and Google Sheets.
- What we access: your basic profile (name, email address) for sign-in, and Google Drive / Google Sheets access solely to create, read and update the attendance spreadsheets used by Klassify.
- Why: so an institution's attendance data is stored in spreadsheets that the institution owns and can open, share and export.
- What we do not do: we do not read, copy or use your other Drive files, we do not use Google user data for advertising, and we do not sell or transfer it to third parties, except as needed to provide the features described here, to comply with law, or as part of a merger or sale where you are notified.
- No human reading: no person at Klassify reads your Google user data unless you give explicit consent for specific data, it is needed for security or abuse investigation, or the law requires it.
Klassify's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
You can withdraw Klassify's access at any time from your Google Account at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
4. Where your data is stored and who processes it
Klassify stores its data with cloud service providers that act on our behalf: a managed database and server platform (Supabase) for accounts, classes and attendance records, and Google (Drive and Sheets) for the institution's attendance spreadsheets. These providers process data only to provide their services to us and are bound by their own security and privacy commitments. Data may be stored on servers outside your country.
5. Advertising
Some versions of the app may show advertisements served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage information under Google's Privacy Policy. We do not share your name, email, class or attendance data with advertisers.
6. Sharing of information
- Within your institution: teachers and administrators of your institution can see the attendance information of the classes and students they manage. Students can see their own attendance.
- Service providers: as described in section 4.
- Legal reasons: if required by law, court order or to protect rights, safety and security.
7. Children and students
Schools use Klassify to record attendance of students who may be under 18. Student records are created and managed by the school or college, which is responsible for informing students and obtaining any parent or guardian consent required by applicable law before enrolling them. Klassify collects only what is needed to record attendance, and does not knowingly collect information from a child outside of the institution's enrolment. Parents or guardians may contact the institution, or us at the email below, to ask about or request correction or deletion of a child's data.
8. Data retention and deletion
We keep attendance and account data for as long as your institution uses Klassify or as needed to provide the service, and then delete or anonymise it within a reasonable period. Older attendance months may be archived in the institution's spreadsheets. You or your institution can request deletion of your data by emailing ghostog003@gmail.com from the email address linked to your account; we will respond within a reasonable time and in line with applicable law. Some records may be retained where required by law or for legitimate security purposes.
9. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls based on role and institution, and signed session tokens. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will act promptly on any issue we discover.
10. Your choices and rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, and may withdraw consent to Google access at any time (see section 3). Denying location permission means a college student will not be able to mark attendance by GPS. To exercise your rights, contact us at the email below.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available on this page with a new effective date. If changes are significant, we will also notify users in the app or by email.
